Avoid Getting Lost: Use Maps Wisely

Chongqing’s metro transportation includes subway and monorail, while many other cities only have subway.

Google Maps is not always accurate. Some metro stations are marked as “Permanently closed,” but they are in normal operation. I strongly recommend downloading the most commonly used map app in China, “Gaode Map.” After entering a destination, it will provide detailed public transit route planning. Gaode Map currently does not support English, so you can copy and paste the Chinese name of the location you want to go to into the search box to look up the metro route.

If you need help from metro staff with the app, show the staff the following phrase:

您好,我想从这个站前往(fill in the name of the place),我看不懂高德地图的中文界面,请您帮我搜索它提供的地铁路线。然后指出app说的我该下车的地点。谢谢。

[Excuse me, I would like to go from this station to (xx). I can’t understand the Chinese interface of Gaode Map. Could you please help me search for the route it provides? And then point out the station where the app says I should get off. Thank you!]

Then, open the Gaode Map app on your phone and hand your phone to the staff member.
